While meditating at Rennes-le-Château in Southern France, I received a vision from Saint Mary Magdalene which inspired me to paint this image of her.
It is said that after Mary had witnessed the resurrection, she presented herself to the Emperor Tiberius Caesar in Rome. She was holding an egg in hand and proclaimed the miracle: „Christ is risen!”
The emperor, mocking her, said that Jesus could no more have risen than the egg in her hand was red. Immediately, the egg turned red as a sign from God to illustrate the truth of her message.
Jesus spoke about St Mary Magdalene to St Mechtilde:
“The intensity of love that she bore me on earth, is the measure of the union which associates her with me in heaven.”
