Dance of the Spores

“Maitake” – the dancing mushroom – is what the Japanese call it, and I too danced with joy when I found it during a summer that was actually far too dry. With no great expectations, I had wandered through the forest until I suddenly stood before a mighty oak trunk, embraced by an enormous Maitake. What even experienced mycologists and lovers of fine cuisine often search for in vain had been gifted to me.

Here, the mushroom is depicted in its dance – its spores swirl through the air like fine dust, carrying life in all directions. Like little dancers in a circle, they are borne by the wind and weave their threads into the fabric of the forest.
