The fire crackles softly in the stove. Mist wraps the snow-covered mountains in a thick veil. A peaceful stillness surrounds me. And a thought arises — how are you doing right now?
A year ago we moved into this little house in Styria, Austria. Endless forest, quiet, a breathtaking mountain view — a long-held dream has come true. Every day I feel grateful for all that life offers me. And I often marvel that I’ve been able to create freely with my art for so many years, living in a way that feels true to my nature.
But this freedom also brings uncertainty. Sometimes nothing comes for months, then a commission appears that carries me for a while. This year was different: few sales, hardly any commissions. And yet something accompanies me. A trust. The deep knowing of a force that takes care of me.
At my exhibition in autumn, I had the opportunity to show my medicinal-mushroom portraits that have emerged over the past three years. It was a beautiful, lively celebration. Many people told me how touched and inspired they felt.
In moments like these, I feel it so clearly: my paintings want to travel out into the world and work their quiet wonders.
A work of art takes days, weeks, sometimes years to emerge. Not everyone can or wishes to invest in an original.
