Description
For centuries, the tinder fungus (Fomes fomentarius) has been processed into amadou — a soft, leather-like material. Amadou catches even the tiniest spark and preserves embers for hours.
But the tinder fungus is more than a bringer of fire — it stops bleeding, disinfects wounds, and was used by healers as a natural bandage. It’s fibers are so fine and supple that they have been crafted into hats, bags and warm fabrics.
